Physical Therapy Aide

Program Overview:

This program prepares students for careers as Physical Therapy Aides, providing essential skills for basic physical treatment in healthcare facilities. Instruction includes medical office and medical terminology, employability skills, workplace safety, infection control, ethical and legal standards, and interpersonal skill. The course also introduces selected anatomy and physiology systems, their disorder, and treatments. It is designed for students interested in a career bridging healthcare and physical fitness.

 

Physical Therapy Aide: (210 hrs)

This competency-based course prepares students to provide basic physical therapy treatment in health care facilities. This course includes orientation, safety and infection control, mathematics, ethical and legal standards, observation, reporting, and charting, communication and interpersonal skills, anatomy and physiology of selected systems, physical therapy procedures, disorders of selected body systems, drug use, assessment of vital signs, body mechanics, patient care skills, treatment methods, therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, mobility training, skills laboratory, clinical protocol, employability skills and resume preparation. In addition, the course includes an introduction to medical Terminology: medical reports, structure of medical terms, medical abbreviations, body systems and structures, major classes of drugs.  The competencies in this course are aligned with the California High School Academic Content Standards and the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards.
